You will assume the role of an activist. Your goal is to uncover and eliminate
possible market fraud committed by companies. Market fraud occurs when a company makes false
claims about the quality of its product. This means that the product quality is in fact lower than
what the company claims it to be. The company can make such false claims if it is difficult to
verify the actual quality of the product even after using/consuming it.
In your role as an activist, you can decide to:
(1) Investigate the quality claims made by companies by testing their product.
(2) If your testing uncovers market fraud, you can further decide to launch a campaign against the company that
has committed fraud.
In real life, launching a campaign can take the form of publicizing the uncovered fraud on social media and organizing a boycott of the company’s product.
This is done to pressure the company to remove fraudulent claims.
When your
campaign is successful, your
visibility as an effective activist
increases and the public might reward you for your campaign success by donating to your causes. In today's experiment, these rewards will be automatically added to your account as will be described to you later.
